Our response to the results of the General Election

We would like to congratulate the Labour party on their successful election, winning 412 seats, and forming the next UK Government.

As Russell Group Students’ Unions, we represent over 700,000 students across the UK. Every one of our students will be impacted by the decisions that this Government make over the course of the next five years.

We’re enthused to work with the new Government, one which recognises the key role higher education plays in creating opportunities, in supporting local communities, and in shaping the UK economy.

We are particularly looking forward to making student voices heard on what a secure future for higher education should prioritise.

Students have made themselves heard, with 1.8 million young people registering to vote in the general election.

Our students are passionate about the continued impact of the cost-of-living crisis, the experiences of international students through the UK visa system and finding solutions to the broken higher education funding system.

We will continue to campaign for the priorities of our students and are keen to make the case for sustainable, secure and sector-informed change.
